Romanesque capitals from Auvergne

 
In Romanesque churches, why are there so many capitals carved with such diverse and multiformed images ? Where are these capitals located ? How are they connected with each other and how do they relate to sacred space ? This site attemps to respond to these questions by offering new tools for the analysis of five churches from Auvergne (Saint-Pierre de Mozat, Saint-Nectaire, Notre-Dame-du-Port at Clermont-Ferrand, Notre-Dame d'Orcival and Saint-Marcellin de Chanteuges).
